Description

IC1805 - The Heart Nebula

Thus far, it has been a long, dark and starless, if not soulless (shall I say heartless?), winter in the Pacific Northwest as far as acquisition of new image data is concerned.  To keep myself occupied with astrophotography and stave off the melancholy, I've been reviewing old data and images, wondering how I would process past images today with the latest tools that were not available then.  IC1805, the Heart Nebula, has been a recurring target of mine, where I have repeated the offense of an unfortunate color choice dominated by green.  I've included these images in several public presentations, each time regretting my offense as I view the image projected on a large screen, filling the room with a green, sickly glow.  Needing something to do while sheltering from the frigid rain, I've combined three seasons of past data to produce this SHO image, this time severely reducing the green as well as applying the latest tools available in PixInsight.

Addendum:  Winter has now turned to Spring, and I've had some fresh time under the stars.  The Winter Funk has passed.  I hope it is the same with you and that you enjoy my old data as I work on the new ...
