Leica has a 1600mm (fl) f/5.6 APO. Unfortunately, it weighs 60 kg. https://petapixel.com/2024/05/03/see-portraits-shot-with-leicas-2-million-1600mm-f-5-6-lens/ but definitely no spikes. ;-) |

Michael Lev: Whoa... That sucker is almost $98,000 USD!!! The impressive thing about it is the 9 micron stars. It looks like its basically designed to be used with a KAF-16803. At 9 microns, that means a diffraction spot would span 2-3 pixels with modern CMOS sensors like the IMX455, which I think is pretty optimal. An at a whopping 7 degree field... |

@Dunk can you post an unprocessed master frame taken with an IMX571 (APS-C) sensor? It would be great to take a look at it’s performance at the edge of the field. Also, I’ve heard from many people that the stock focuser isn’t up to photography, instead it’s more oriented for visual with a wobbly extension tube built into a poor focuser. has that been your experience too? |

The focuser extension tube can be wobbly, but I’ve imaged with it for several years, without any major issues. I’ve now upgraded the focuser to an Omegon steel track for ease of mind. The Omegon was a drop in replacement, meaning that you can keep the original base plate. MoonLite and Starlight Instruments (FeatherTouch) also supply replacements where you don’t need to adapt the tube. |
